On Tuesday, health officials issued a warning about possible measles exposure in both Dulles and Ronald Reagan airports in the Washington, D.C. Metro area.

The Virginia Public Health Department said they had a “confirmed case” of a person traveling through both airports while coming home from an international trip.

The incident highlights the danger of allowing millions of unvetted foreigners through the southern border.

A ‘Highly Contagious Illness’

The latest incident doesn’t appear to be dangerous according to authorities but highlights how dangerous infectious diseases can be when spread at highly mobile locations like airports.

Fox News reports, “DC Health says the potential exposure occurred in the international arrivals area of the main terminal at Dulles International Airport between 4 and 8 p.m. on Jan. 3, then at terminal A at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport the following day from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. “

Reagan National and Dulles are the most frequently used airports by Members of Congress and federal employees who work in the D.C. area.

“DC Health has been notified of a confirmed case of measles in a person who traveled through DC area airports when returning from international travel,” the agency said in a statement. “While the threat of transmission is low, DC Health is notifying District residents who were at these locations about their possible exposure.”

Those notified were told to self-isolate and inform their doctors of any symptoms.

According to Virginia’s Department of Health:

“Measles is a highly contagious illness that can spread easily through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes. Measles symptoms usually appear in two stages. In the first stage, most people have a fever of greater than 101 degrees, runny nose, watery red eyes, and a cough. These symptoms usually start 7 to 14 days after being exposed.”

“The second stage starts 3 to 5 days after symptoms start, when a rash begins to appear on the face and spread to the rest of the body. People with measles are contagious from 4 days before the rash appears through 4 days after the rash appeared.”

What About the Millions Who Come to the U.S. Illegally Each Year?

This concern has come about due to ticketed flight passengers who presumably have the proper documentation.

But what about the millions of foreigners who enter the United States illegally each year?

This recent measles alert went out after finding measles has infected one passenger.

Just one.

Record High Illegal Immigration

The peril is more pronounced considering the U.S. has suffered record illegal immigration since the Biden administration took office.

In December, nearly 13,000 illegal aliens crossed into Texas alone on a single day.

One Biden administration official admitted in the same month that they are allowing 5,000 illegal aliens to enter the country daily.
